July 1957 Intake
The July 1957 intake was the first of the ‘ballot’ method of selecting conscripts. If your birth date was pulled out of the barrel, then subject to a medical, you were called up for 3 months full time training, followed by 2 years in the CMF. In that era there were a much greater number of CMF units across the metropolitan areas, as well as regional towns, so it was not too hard to be assigned to a unit proximate to your place of residence. Quite a few from this intake went on to serve their CMF time in 9 HAA.

Download the booklet Welcome to Your Army produced by ERM to record a brief history of the site, specially the use for national service training, prior to the re-development for the Moorebank Units Relocation Project. Two ‘P1’ huts have been retained and restored and will be part of the Museum Precinct for the Engineer Museum.
