The mid-year Artillery Luncheon was held at Club City (City of Sydney RSL), on Wednesday 17 June. While numbers were down slightly, those attending enjoyed an excellent three course meal followed by a very interesting account of recent involvement in Afganistan. Thanks again go to Laurie Manning for organising this get together in the middle of the year.
Introduced by Don Tait, the Guest Speaker was Brigadier Phillip BRIDIE, AM, a currently serving Reservist, who was the Deputy Commanding General – Coalition Effects and Transition, deployed with the US 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), in the eastern section of Afghanistan. This area includes the capital Kabul and shares a fragile 1,200 kilometre border with Pakistan. He was one of the approximately 400 Australian personnel in Afghanistan in 2014. The audience obtained an interesting oversight of the current situation in Afghanistan, from the perspective of someone recently and closely involved in the ongoing operations..
