RAA Association (NSW) Inc. & Condon Associates Group
“Annual Golfers’ Challenge”
After all of the dramas and dilemmas we faced with last year’s weather and the need to reschedule our Golf Day this year opened with an absolutely perfect day weatherwise, and the course brisling in virtually perfect condition. It was clearly the precursor to what was to be another wonderful day of golf and camaraderie. Our annual pilgrimage of ‘Gunner’ friendly golfers to compete for either the RAA Association Golf Challenge Shield, for the Defence related teams, or the Condon Associates Trophy for the non-military teams was off to a perfect start.
Again the event was held at Rosnay Golf Club, who have strived under the complexities of Administrators running the Council, to create a great event reflecting our well renowned and now very traditional Gunner friendliness and camaraderie. The warmth and unison in the room after the physical side of the day was complete remains second to none with many comments from both players and sponsors alike. All sponsors again departing saying that they would be back next year; with friends!
This was the fourth year that the RAA Association Shield was competed for by all Defence personnel, as well as Defence member organisations. A key purpose of the event, is to raise funds for Legacy NSW to help meet the regrettable increasing demand for support from the families of those who have served. This year saw a total of in excess of $7,000 contributed to Legacy by our players and sponsors bringing the total to date to somewhere in the order of $21,000. A great effort by all involved. Particular thanks are given to Craig Cockburn representing the Luci Giumelli Saini Trust and Geoff Brown of Matthews Folbigg Solicitors for their donations that added to the funds raised on the day.
This year a huge vote of thanks goes to Tanja Stancevic and July Arguijo, for organising and running the day. It ran so smoothly, they are able to stand justly proud of their efforts.
Winners on the day were Castle Hill RSL for the RAA (NSW) Shield and Slattery’s Auctions for the Condon Associates Group Trophy. We certainly congratulate them on their achievements; but we must acknowledge that general consensus was that all who played were in fact winners having had such a wonderful day in what must be described as perfect conditions.
The details for next year’s event, when the new "owners" of the Shield and Trophy will be challenged, will be advised on the Associations website and in Gunfire in 2018.
