Gunners Challenge Golf Day 2015

Amidst a long period of torrential rain and almost unpredictable weather patterns on 21 May 2015 Rosnay Golf Club in Auburn played host and turned on simply spectacular weather to enable the annual pilgrimage of ‘Gunner’ friendly golfers to compete for either the RAA Association Golf Challenge Shield, for the Defence related teams, or the Condon Associates Trophy for the non-military teams.

This was the second year that the event was held at Rosnay Golf Club who have continued to create a wonderfully warm event reflecting the well renowned and very traditional Gunner friendliness and camaraderie. The warmth and unison in the room after the physical side of the day was complete remains second to none with many comments from both players and sponsors alike. All sponsors departing saying that they would be back next year; with friends!

This was the third year that the RAA Association Shield was competed for by all Defence personnel, as well as Defence member organisations. A key purpose of the event, is to raise funds for Legacy NSW to help meet the regrettable increasing demand for support from the families of those who have served. This year saw a total of in excess of $6,000 contributed to Legacy by our players and sponsors bringing the total to date to somewhere in the order of $14,000. A great effort by all involved.

Winners on the day were Castle Hill RSL Sub Branch for the RAA (NSW) Shield and Cash Resources Australia for the Condon Associates Group Trophy. We certainly congratulate them on their achievements; but we must acknowledge that general consensus was that all who played were in fact winners having had such an enjoyable day.

This year we had a number of committed sponsors and our thanks go to Matthews Folbigg, Crowe Howarth, Pattinson Financial Services, RICOH, Arthur J Gallagher, and the Condon Associates Group for all of their contributions.

Thanks also go to O’Maras Valuations and Auctioneers, Bendigo Bank, Rosnay Golf Club, Auburn Golf Pro Shop and   Riverside Brewing Company for donating prizes and gifts. Again a huge vote of thanks go to   Lyn Dong and   Jason Greasby, for organising and running the day. It ran so smoothly, they were able to stand justly proud of their efforts.

The next occasion the new "owners" of the Shield and Trophy will be challenged, will be advised shortly.
