Gunners Challenge Golf Day 2008

This was the third year of competition for the perpetual Shield donated by the RAA Association (NSW). The teams met on a beautiful day on Sun 2 Nov, 2008, at the Georges River Golf Club, and enjoyed a tasty two course lunch before a very enjoyable round. The weather was good and the course has become a bit more challenging. There were 5 teams this year, 23 Fd Regt fielded 1 team, and guests of Neil Dibley, formerly 1 Fd Regt, fielded 4 teams.

23 Fd Regt won the Shield this year, being the only official Artillery unit or association competing.

The 'RAAA Golf Challenge Day Trophy' is handed to Lt Col Paul Langford of 23 Fd Regt, by Vic Willey.

The 23 Fd Regt team, pictured with Vic Willey in the middle were, from left to right, Capt Travis McGregor, WO1 Grant Boyle, Lt Col Paul Langford, and WO2 Ian Ramsay

The golf was very very close, according to the scores, with second and third placings being decided by count back.

First prize was won by Clem Heffernan, Kevin Grant, Marilyn Paterson, and Jeff Irison.

Second prize was won by Doug Grimshaw, Les Milross, Bruce Hammond, and Ray Miles

Third prize was won by Gordon Scott, John Colombo, and Gary Beaumont.

Doug Grimshaw took out the 'nearest the hole' prize.

Bruce Hammond came second 'nearest the hole'.

Gordon Scott took out the 'longest drive' prize.

Closely followed by Capt Travis McGregor

Once again Vic Willey organised, and executed, a very successful occasion. Those unable to attend this year missed out on a most enjoyable time.

The next occasion the "owners" of the Shield will be challenged, will be in early November 2009.
